The aliens always come for the sugar. It had gotten to the point where people would put bowls and bowls of it on their doorstep, hoping that their guests would be happy watching from the window. Caster sugar, molasses, fructose, stevia, industrial grade glucose, etc. The local animals were happy too. It was not uncommon to see your pet in the arms of the being who would then, a few hours later, break all the windows of your house, your legs, or maybe just the fragile barrier between your brain and what protects it. Because, as everybody has since found out, that’s made of sugar too.
